McNair Scholars Program Central Michigan University

Prospective Mentors - Announcements

Thank you for considering becoming a McNair mentor! Besides exploring the website, feel free to view the mentor fact sheet (PDF) outlining the role and responsibilities upheld by our mentors. In general, faculty research mentors begin working with a scholar in the spring semester by developing a research project (in the form of a proposal) to be conducted the following summer. During the Summer Research Institute, we expect mentors to be available to guide the research project and provide ongoing feedback as the scholar progresses in the project. Final research papers are due mid-August. The scholars typically present their proposals in April and final results in October. We hope that our faculty mentors also offer guidance in the form of graduate school advice and socialization into academia and other career options for Ph.D.’s.

We encourage you to speak with other faculty members whom have already served in this capacity and/or contact the McNair office to receive more details about this rewarding opportunity. We look forward to working with you!
