Thank you for your interest in the McNair Scholars Program. We are currently recruiting a new group of scholars to begin the program in January 2010. You are invited to attend our upcoming information meeting on Tuesday, September 15 at 5 p.m. in the Lake Michigan room at the UC. Meet current scholars and learn how the McNair program can benefit you. Please come by the office and express your interest in the program in the meantime - we would really enjoy meeting you and would like to help you prepare for the application process!
The application consists of the application form (including information/signatures regarding your family’s financial and educational background), official transcripts (including any community colleges attended), personal statement highlighting your long-term career goals, resume and two letters of recommendation (including at least one from a faculty member, preferably someone within your discipline).
Strong applicants will be invited for a formal interview with the McNair director and associate director and final determinations will be made via the McNair selection committee consisting of faculty from various departments. Announcements are generally made by early November and new scholars attend an orientation session and meet with prospective faculty mentors prior to the end of the fall semester. Scholars formally begin the program the following January.
